339F Case Study - Adoption, Anxiety 339F Sarah Aged 14

Anxiety fits, Adoption, Separation

The Problem

Mum found out about Clover House through recommendation, and reported that Sarah had been having “fit” style anxiety attacks some 5 months ago when “her muscles tense and shake and loses her balance and makes her feel tired”. They had been to the doctor and consultant who diagnosed anxiety attacks.

In the questionnaire Mum recorded that Sarah had been severely neglected by her birth parents and she had experienced the loss of her adopted father. The “attacks” had commenced from the divorce of her adopted father.

The Treatment – 3 sessions

Imagery

At the first session Sarah was able to “rewind” an unpleasant incident (which was not needed to be verbalised or explained) and a “blow out” of the same incident, by the second session Sarah wanted to deal with her “big” problem her adoption as she can remember many of the details of what happened to her with her birth family which still upset her, Sarah was shown the “baboushka story and used crayons to explain her life story and “rewound” it. At the third session Sarah was shown how to decrease bad memories and increase good memories, and did a “blow out” on the “fit” imagery.

Nutrition

It was suggested that Sarah keep a diary of foods, moods and stressors to help pinpoint a cause of the attacks, and advised to have more substantial breakfast, to help keep blood sugar levels and have some fruit at lunch and vegetables at teatime. Magnesium was suggested for relaxing and sleep, Essential oils and a multivitamin and mineral.

Massage

Sarah received massage, with Mum to continue at home.

Results

Mum telephoned us the morning after the first session crying that she was so amazed that Sarah had woken up “a different person”; Sarah said she had more confidence and was going out more with her friends.
