Allen, Age 9 from Oxfordshire

Touretts Syndrome, Sleep

The Problem

Mum found out about us through recommendation and travelled from Oxford. Allen had been diagnosed with Touretts Syndrome at age 2 years and Mum was worried about his increasing facial tics and throat clearing. She also reported Allen had restless sleep and sleep walked.

The Treatment - 3 sessions

Nutrition:

Despite having good healthy food it was suggested that because Allen was very sporty to have more substantial breakfasts, replace crisps and cake for packed lunch with carrots nuts and seeds. Also generally increase oily fish, fruit and vegetables and to have flapjacks or apple and cheese before football after school. Supplements of essential omega oils and magnesium were recommended.

Massage:
Mum is a holistic therapist and knows how to massage, but hadn’t had the time. School spends 10 minutes every morning with students massaging each other! Mum was encouraged to do 10 minutes every night to calm Allen for sleep. At the second session it was noted Allen’s blinking stopped whilst having a facial and head massage.

Imagery:
With imagery work was done on rewinding the time when his brother was born, and some conscious work on blinking and keeping eyes open. A hero was suggested to help Allen whilst sleeping. He was also shown a technique of blowing feelings into balloons. Allen asked for help with being as good in athletics as football – and this was attended to.

After Results:

One month later Mum completed an evaluation giving us 10/10 for satisfaction with service that the “whole family” had benefited. She achieved “much more than I thought I would” and liked best “the results” Three months later mum wrote in a Christmas card ‘Allen is doing really well, it has made an amazing difference, thank you.’
