History

The co-founders Basil Jones, a pyschotherapist and Jill Gill, an aromatherapist met when connected with the Bristol Cancer Help Centre, which pioneered complementary therapy for cancer from the 1970’s.   Basil having worked with adults realized many problems emanated from childhood, recognised that there needed to be a specialist centre for complementary medicine for children.  A truly holistic (mind, body and soul) approach which would address the emotional needs of children, which are mainly disregarded in conventional medicine..

By various synchronicities, and voluntary work, a disused bungalow, formerly a doctor’s surgery was obtained in Oldland Common.  A programme was established of combining three therapies nutrition, massage and imagery together with a very caring, holistic, non-judgemental approach.

The Charity was formally set up in April 1996 by Trust Deed with three trustees, with the charitable aims “To relieve sickness and suffering of children and young people through the provision of complementary care, and to publish the results widely”.

2003 saw the retirement of Basil and a change of premises to another bungalow on the main road between Bristol and Bath at Saltford.  Jill being responsible for the day to day running of the charity and therapy supervision.

The focused attention on therapy has led to the 2006 results of 86% success rate (as rated by children and parents themselves) within three sessions.

2006 has seen the production of a DVD and a booklet in order to spread the techniques to parents and professionals.

Having successfully pioneered and honed the process, and substantiated its replication ,by various teams of therapists, and results from evaluations after several years, Clover House is now poised to fulfil its destiny.
