Nutrition
A varied, healthy diet is essential for your child’s physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Our aim at Clover House is to encourage you and your child to adopt and develop eating habits and lifestyle changes that support a healthy mind and body.
Our nutritionist will explain how your child’s present eating habits may be the causing their health problems (for example, too much processed, sugary foods containing many additives, or repetitive or missed meals). She will explain the effects that these foods
have on our bodies. For example, children may be allergic and/or intolerant to food colourants and preservatives, which in some cases can produce a rash, or even altered behaviour.
She will then suggest ways to make practical and often simple changes to help relieve
your child’s symptoms, and/or conditions. For example, balancing blood-sugar levels can
help eliminate problems with concentration, energy levels and mood swings.
This may involve introducing alternative, healthier foods into their meals, or simply changing the times at which they eat.
For children who eat only a few different foods it may be that they have to try a new food up to 15 times to become used to it and accept it. Philippa’s job is to show you that it is worth persevering with the suggested changes in order to see the improvement in your child’s health, mood and behaviour.
We find that children are more likely to make changes once they understand the
connection between what they eat and how they feel and that changing what and the way they eat will help them to feel happier and more able to enjoy school, friends and family life.
Our nutritional programmes are designed specifically for your child, their problems and even their interests (for example, a food intolerance, or a child who is a keen athlete). Philippa may also recommend certain supplements to support specific aspects of their health.
