For children, divorce can be stressful, sad and confusing. At any age, kids may feel uncertain about what life will be like after the event, or angry at the prospect of Mum and Dad splitting up. Divorce is not easy, but at Clover House they can make the process, and its effects, less painful for your children.

Ella, age 6, came to Clover House after her Mum was given a leaflet from her divorce solicitor. She had become disruptive and aggressive at home and was generally confused and upset about her parents divorce. During a course of 3 sessions, Ella spent time with each of Clover House’s therapists. Through various techniques, the Imagery therapist encouraged Ella to replace negative thoughts with positive ones and instilled a sense of confidence and well being in her. The Massage therapist showed Mum some basic reflexology and massage techniques to help Ella relax as well as giving her some lavender oil to use at bath time. And lastly the Nutritionist advised calming foods containing magnesium and B vitamins to counteract anxiety and to balance blood sugar levels. At the end of the treatment Mum reported that she was overwhelmed with the caring and comfortable environment of Clover House and was impressed with the therapists understanding and concern at each session.

There are many ways that you can help your child adjust to separation or divorce:
-          Your patience, reassurance and a listening ear can minimize tension as children learn to cope with new circumstances.
-          Provide routines that your children can rely on, remind then that they can count on you for stability, structure and care.
-          If you can maintain a working relationship with the other parent you can help your child avoid the stress that comes with watching parents in conflict.
-          You can help reduce your child’s pain by making their well being your top priority.
-          And above all, children really need to understand that your divorce is not their fault.

Clover Houses’ proven mix of complementary, traditional and modern remedies emphasises the active participation of the child and can help create a powerful healing force. If you feel that your child will benefit from this unique trilogy of treatments you can contact Clover House on 01225 244047 or info@cloverhoues.org for more information.
