What to expect
What to expect during a Massage Therapy Session
At the beginning of the massage session, we will ask you and your child about the problems you are experiencing and make notes of any relevant medical history.
Our massage therapist Jill Gill will then encourage your child to try some massage. If they are a little reluctant or uncertain, she will start off just massaging their hands or feet, or offer you a massage so that your child can watch and perhaps join in and help.
Once she has demonstrated the techniques, Jill will invite you to have a short practice session massaging your child and will encourage you to continue regular practice at home. She may suggest ideas or techniques to use at home to promote better bonding and increase positive feelings. You will also be given a handout and some massage oil to use at home.
Your child will be encouraged to give feedback and their feelings and experience will be respected at all times. We always ensure that they feel relaxed and secure, and support their confidence and self-esteem with praise and acknowledgement.
Subsequent sessions will follow a similar format, with massage continued at home between sessions. We may also give you information on flower essences that can be used to alleviate any emotional difficulties you or your child identify.
